The dance community deserves the same standards, protections, and infrastructure that exist in every other youth sport. Unlike other youth activities, dance has historically lacked verified participant identity, guardian-controlled consent, secure media access, trackable dancer history, and a shared foundation for fairness, compliance, and protection. The International Competitive Dance Registry (ICDR) directly addresses these long-standing gaps by providing the foundational infrastructure the industry has always needed—the missing layer that allows dance to operate with the same legitimacy, clarity, and care as other competitive youth activities.
Since DanceBUG manages and stores large volumes of sensitive information about minors—including personal data, and media that captures their likeness—that responsibility comes with real legal, ethical, and compliance obligations. As a trusted provider of dance software and media, we are upgrading our security protocols by creating an integration with ICDR. They are providing the most purpose-built infrastructure available for verified identity, guardian control, and secure media access, enabling us to meet today’s standards for privacy, consent, and protection. Supporting and integrating ICDR is not just innovation, it’s a responsibility. A necessary step toward a safer, fairer, and more sustainable future for the dance industry.
Getting Your ICDR Validation
ICDR validation for guardians is the first step in. Setting up your ICDR profile & account can be done independently by visiting the ICDR's website icdrdance.com. Set up can also be completed during your media redemption process at dancebug.com/enjoy. Validation will require the use of PRVIO. PRVIO checks your government issued ID's validity, compares it with a selfie you will submit. Your ID and selfie are used strictly for a one-time identity match to confirm you are an authorized adult. ICDR does not collect, store, or retain your ID images or photographs. Once the verification is confirmed, the images' data are deleted.
Once you are verified, you will be able to add your dancer into your account. This process does a few things, it establishes a verified connection between you, an authorized adult, and the dancer. When your ICDR account is connected with your DanceBUG account, media that is avaliable for the season will be added automatically. In addition, ICDR will inform you if another account wishes to gain access to a dancer's media. Registered dancers will also have their names removed from publicly accessible places on the DanceBUG systems.
